Jersey is located in the English Channel some 100 miles south
of the UK mainland and only 15 miles from the coast of France.
Despite its proximity, Jersey is neither a member of the European
Community nor the United Kingdom and benefits from its own legislation
and tax raising powers. It is English speaking. |

Jersey’s base currency is sterling. With a simple tax
structure, comprehensive legislation and a resilient communications
infrastructure; Jersey has grown into a major offshore finance
centre with an excellent reputation. This background and many
years of political stability have together encouraged many major
international banks, accountancy firms, fund managers and lawyers
to establish a significant presence in the island. |

There is also a thriving trust and company administration sector
and these companies (as well as Banks, Investment Businesses
and Fund Managers), are subject to regulation by the Jersey
Financial Services Commission. With so many clients entrusting
their finances to Jersey based companies and Jersey’s
adoption of best international practice, the island was a natural
centre for KYC offshore to be based. |
